For years now I've been celebrating Bithday Month. For me it starts July 19 and concludes August 19. It is fantastic and I've been trying to spread the word about Birthday Month to anyone who will listen, but I've got a dilemma when it comes to little Evie Lu.
Being a New Years Eve baby do we celebrate from December 31 to January 31 or do we give her the option of having a family birthday party in the winter and a summer invite all your friends over birthday party? If I were Evie Lu I'd go with the twice a year birthday. I'd make it part of my Birthday Month and at least for a few years it would be a great Father/Daughter time of fun. (After a while she'd want Kaia and I to be as far away from her parties as possible.)

I always threatened to do the mid-year b-day too (with a 22 Dec b-day, it gets all tangled up with holidays) so I could celebrate in June. Thing is, June's almost harder than December. In June, everyone's on family vacation or out of town or whatever, and it gets really hard to dig up all your friends. If she wanted to celebrate with her friends on her real b-day, she'd never be short of a theme: New Year's Eve!
Half-birthdays are not all they're cracked up to be, I think. But maybe wait and see what Evie has to say about it. You know, when she starts talking.
unlike megan, i'm actually a fan of celebrating every birthday excuse i get. i always hated having a summer birthday because i never got to bring treats to school. enter the half-birthday.
now, as a "grown up" (whatever that means), i'm not afraid to tell people it's my birthday (it is!), half-birthday, birthday week, birthday month ...
:)
